THE INSPIRATION
The mythical safari jacket, or saharienne, is an expression of 1960s freedom inspired by Western men in Africa and India; first introduced on the couture runway in 1967, the cotton gabardine piece gained iconic status in a 1968 Vogue shoot with supermodel Verushka in the African savannah.
